BMX racing

BMX racing was derived from motocross racing over thirty years ago in Southern California. A BMX race takes place in an off-road environment on a dirt track. The tracks consist of a starting gate and several jumps followed by a finishing line. Throughout the course there is banking and the corners are flat. The rules and regulations for BMX racing are sanctioned by a variety of governing bodies who hold power of several different regional and international circuits.

The races are divided into to groups of riders often by skill or age. Riders who fit in the specified age group or skill level classification can participate in that specific race or circuit. An international sanctioning authority usually decides the skill levels and the age groups for the different race participants. They also keep track of the points that accumulate during the racing season.

The most famous sanctioning bodies in BMX racing include, the UCI, the American Bicycle Association and National bicycle League. The sanctioning bodies sponsor and organize the races and the racing seasons. They maintain ranks and enforce the rules and regulations they create for the sport.

The riders in BMX racing are on average in the age range of 9 to 10 years. The average professional BMX racer is in the age range of 18 to 21 years. Professional BMX racing is available for both men and women.
