Just like BMX racing was derived from motocross, freestyle BMX was derived from skateboarding. BMX riders began riding in skateboarding parks and started to mimic the tricks that skaters were doing on their boards. It is considered a creative way of using a BMX bike that was originally designed for BMX racing for one of the several disciplines of freestyle.
